Popcorn - The Thrifty Snack |
Using the bulk popcorn in bags instead of the microwave popcorn saves you money and lets you add the right amount of seasonings that you find tasty. It is very easy to prepare and quick now that is my kind of snack.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one
and only Son,that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal live. John 3:16 (NIV) |
How to Pop corn on the stove:
Use a pig pot with a lid, add enough cooking oil to cover the bottom. You could also use olive oil and then pour enough popcorn to cover the bottom and then mix to coat with the oil.
Put the lid on and turn the stove on high and when the kernels begin to pop, I move the pan around on the eye to keep it from burning. When the corn has popped remove it from the stove and pour in a big bowl.
Now is when you can add your toppings and butter. If your family has different tastes simply portion out the popcorn and let them add their favorite toppings. Here are a few you might find tasty.
Toppings:
Parmesan Cheese
Taco Seasoning
Salt
Italian Seasoning
Cinnamon & Sugar
Garlic Salt
Onion Powder
Chili Powder
Seasoned Salt
Apple Pie Spice & Sugar
Pumpkin Pie Spice & Sugar
Ranch Dressing Mix
Hot Pepper Flakes
Bacon Bits
To serve this delicious snack to your family you can put it into individual bowls or you can also put it into brown paper lunch bags. You can fold the top edges down to make it a little cuter and maybe even write the word popcorn on each bag before filling them up.
To store your un-popped popcorn put it in an airtight jar/container glass or plastic (I use a glass canning jar) and store in a cool place.
